Naturally, the kidneys clean the blood every day to filter substances waste contained therein for later disposal in the form of urine. Sometimes such substances levels too much compared to the liquid which serves as solvent so that it can not be completely wasted by the body and settles in the kidneys. The deposition of stones in the kidney can be caused by foods or other health problems underlying. Based on the constituent materials, the kidney stones can be divided into four main types, namely calcium stones, uric acid stones, stone ammonia (struvit), and cystine stones.

Calcium stones are caused by high levels of calcium in the urine. The type of kidney stones is the most common. High levels of calcium can be caused due to hereditary disease hypercalciuria. This condition causes the sufferers to release their calcium in the urine. High calcium levels can also be caused by the parathyroid glands that are too active. A hormone produced this gland serves to regulate the amount of calcium in the blood.

The second is uric acid stones. This stone is formed due to the high levels of uric acid in the urine caused by food containing high purine. Examples of foods trigger high uric acid is a shellfish, meat and fish. Sufferers of Gout are also at high risk of forming this type of stone.

The third is the struvite stones. This is a type of kidney stones that can be formed and enlarged. The main cause of the formation of struvite stones is ur*nary tract infection that has lasted a long time. This type of stone is more often found in female patients compared to male patients.

The latter is the cystine stones. Kidney stone is formed due to too much amino acid cystine which is removed by the kidneys. Cystine stone is a type of kidney stones are very rarely found. This condition is caused by a disease known as sistinuria. This disease affects the amount of the amino acid cystine are excreted in urine.

In addition to dietary factors and health conditions that are underlying, there are several other factors that can trigger the occurrence of kidney stone disease, including:
  1. Lack of drinking water
  2. Family health history
  3. Obese
  4.  Taking drugs, for example diuretics, aspirin, antibiotics, antacids, as well as some antiepileptic drugs and antiretroviral
  5. Side effects of the operation on the digestive organs
